This week Hulk Hogan finally came clean and admitted that Darren Aronofsky wanted him to play the lead role in the 2008 critical hit The Wrestler. The role that reignited Mickey Rourke‘s career was originally meant for Hogan, at least according to Hogan. Also this week were the Oscar nominations. While many great performances where acknowledged, many were snubbed by the Academy including Michael Fassbender, who was hailed for his performance in Shame. Los Angeles Times took a closer look at why the actor might’ve been left out of the running. We also have a couple of movie previews. Catch up below.

Another solid film coming out of Sundance, Smashed is one of those films that may seem like “just another Sundance film” but has enough twists and interesting dynamics that is seperates it from the pack. And though Mary Elizabateh Winstead steals the movie with one of her best performances to date, the film’s strong supporting cast and a number of surprising and fun moments are really what makes it a success.

Few things make a reunion tour less appealing as the passing of a key member, and Monty Python – much like The Beatles after John Lennon was assassinated – have done little together as a group since Graham Chapman died of cancer in 1989. Much of the cast have worked together since, but the only time the five living members got together was for an appearance in 1998 at the Aspen Comedy Festival. But now, according to Variety, Terry Jones has roped together the group to voice aliens in his upcoming movie Absolutely Anything.

A Ferris Bueller’s Day Off sequel—it’s something fans both deeply long for and are terrified might actually happen. While it would be great to see Ferris again, it’s also likely that a full-length sequel would in no way live up to the excellence of the original. So how to get around such a quandary? Simply hire Todd Phillips, director and writer of The Hangover, nab Ferris actor Matthew Broderick, and make a video teasing Ferris’ return.
And then make it a freaking Honda commercial.

Well, it’s almost time for the second half of AMC’s The Walking Dead to rise from its mid-season hiatus, stumbling forth from the earth in desperate hungry need of brains, brains, brains. And, just to make sure you remember it’s returning to the airwaves on February 12, AMC has crafted a quick little trailer for the second half of season two in order to whet your appetite.
And, in an apparent response to much of season two’s interminable mediocrity in which characters ceased to be real people of depth and simply devolved in plot devices, AMC’s trailer displays a newfound depth and intellige… oh, I’m just kidding. It’s basically everybody in the cast shooting a bunch of guns and crashing cars and yelling.

Following last week’s first-class episode, the hits just keep on coming for “Parks and Recreation“, delivering yet another solid half-hour of comedy with “Bowling for Votes.” There might have been a moment early on when it seemed as if the show would take a step back after last week’s big success, but things revved up quickly, providing one laugh after another.

The Oscars have been announced so The Descendants – which was still a limited release – is going wide this weekend. One wonders when The Artist will follow. Since the front runner’s still in limited release, mainstream audiences can choose between Liam Neeson and wolves in The Grey, Katherine Heigl in One for the Money, and Sam Worthington in Man on a Ledge. Decisions, decisions. It’s likely last weekend’s winners will stay viable.

Many game show hosts of the olden days came off as one step above used car salesmen. Though the game show has yet to be reinvented for a new generation, the energy and glad-handing (and sometimes inappropriate kissing) that came with hosting was as fascinating as it was embarrassing. One wonders if many such hosts were a couple of sheets the wind when hosting. Pat Sajak can only speak for himself and Vanna White, but in an interview with ESPN2 he admits that in the early days they would sometimes be soused while hosting Wheel of Fortune. Check out the video…
